fear of the living deadThere is no question that his start to Season 6 has been better than last season. At this point in season 5, our heroes crashed a plane they couldn't fly to save someone who didn't even exist, and got stranded in central Texas because of reasons we never understood The reason they need to come back. in Texas.
This time we are still in Texas. Virginia, the leader of the Vanguard (although they should be called Rangers, I suppose?) divided our team of heroes into smaller groups. She tried to kill Morgan, whose fate was revealed in the season 6 premiere last week. I'm still thinking about killing him.
i love this episodebut alsoits full of plot holes.
Like last week, this episode is an improvement over season 5.
That's what season 6 seems to be doing. It's improved in big, notable ways over the past two seasons (at least so far), but still retains some muddled writing and directing. It's still not as good as season 3, but it's gotten more attention than it has since the end of season 4A, when Madison's death left things unraveling. I hope it sticks. we will see.
on today's showwelcome to the club,We learn the fate of three other main characters: Alicia, Strand and Daniel. All three were in the same place, working for Virginia in Lawton, the home of the Vanguard. Alicia and Strand clean the toilets. Daniel, who has apparently lost his memory, returns to work as a barber. When Alicia and Strand were brought before Virginia after an altercation with a security guard, they saw Daniel cutting her hair.
more for you
We suspect he's feigning ignorance, like in the beginning of Strand and Alicia. But Daniel behaved differently. He doesn't remember anyone. He flinched when Strand punched him in the face. He is very convincing. We don't learn the truth until the end of the episode, when he leaves Lawton in a donkey cart with his guards.
When Ranger goes back to get Daniel's scissors (which he pretends to have forgotten), he whistles and we hear a tune being repeated in the bushes. Daniel sneaks to the edge of the dark road, and a walker appears. Someone kills him from a tree, and then Morgan shows up, bearded and wearing the same cowboy hat we saw him wearing last week. I have to say, while I think all this super-denim stuff is kind of quirky, Morgan looks a little funky. Daniel jokes that he needs a haircut, but I wish he had a beard.
Regardless, Daniel immediately went off with Morgan. My only guess is that he and Strand are faking because he still doesn't trust him. If it was just Alicia he could have left the show but Strand is a snake in the grass and Daniel never liked or trusted him except for a brief time in season 5 with his character and everyone else Together it basically becomes one ridiculous morganite.
However, Strand cannot be trusted, even if his heart is right. At some point in the episode, we learn he made a deal with Virginia to get her into the SWAT team's van and keep him with Alicia. He doesn't do it to take care of Alicia, but because he wants her to be like his Jiminy the Cricket—an angel standing on his shoulders to face his demons. At the end of the episode, after being rewarded by Virginia, he sends Alicia away because he realizes that the only way he can do what needs to be done is without the angel.
This episode is a great example of how all the different elements can work well until you try to put them together into a cohesive whole. The beach is great. When he uses one of the other inmates, cowardly Sanjay, to lure the zombies away from Alicia and Charlie (whom they encountered when they reached a warehouse full of zombies, where Virginia sent them as "punishment" for attacking the bastard Ranger) he does so by stabbing The poor guy's legs then throw him at the Horde to do it. It was as brutal as the Strand ever did, but it paid off. Alicia and another prisoner got hold of the fallen Ranger's weapon and rather awkwardly chopped down the zombie.
But here's where the story starts to show small cracks. Why didn't the Rangers kill the zombies themselves as they escaped? Why do they allow themselves to be pulled and eaten? Of course, they could have just sprayed and prayed, and taken all those seasoned fighters they had. Suddenly there are no more than two Guardians in the camp? What happened to the others? If there are really only two of them, you can take them out, then shoot the zombies and find "weapons" in the warehouse.
(EDIT: One of the guards in the building called evacuate when the zombies broke in, I thought I thought that was meant to evacuate other civilians, but it was actually just ordering the guards to flee? What? Why? The feeling.)

We know the aforementioned coat of arms (obviously better) from Virginia's sister, Dakota. He said Virginia had long sent men to clean out the warehouse just to discover a weapon he could use to kill whomever he wanted (Morgan, though no one named him). Now, Strand, Alicia and their crew must clear the building and decide to use all weapons to kill Virginia and the Rangers.
The plan they came up with was a clever one and then became not so clever because the writers and directors hadn't thought it through. That's why I keep saying the show needs someone to check the quality of the script.
Contrary to previous attempts to clear the building, they decided to build some sort of ramp/tunnel to drive the zombies out of the warehouse. They opened the door, and the zombies began to swarm out, descending the slope in an orderly manner, or at least as orderly as you'd expect from a swarm of undead. At the end of the driveway, Strand and Alicia opened the gate, letting only a few people out at a time, making it easy to knock them over and set the bodies aside.
The problem is that the tunnel itself is so wide open that our hero can walk up and down it and poke all the zombies in without letting them out. Or at least that's what they were able to do after unleashing so many zombies that they all ran out of storage space. Drop some down at first to clear some space, but when there's enough storage, just go through the tunnel - built from a series of pallets and fences, then the trailer outside - and pick them up from a safer location.
Of course something went wrong. The pallet began to topple under the weight of the jostling zombies. Two (only two?) guards guarding the labor camp show up and find Dakota, who's inexplicably hiding while trying to escape her sister (but only in one of her sister's POW camps).
The zombies exploded and killed the guardians, a frantic battle was going on to kill them (although I don't understand why they opened the gates to let more people leave that way instead of just killing them with falling trays) . It's Strand taking Sanjay as a victim and telling people later, "I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen." Pretty brutal, but also classic Strand, which I really appreciate. Milquetoast "I Wanna Be Morgan" Strand is a waste of space.
they arranged. They killed all the zombies with the last bullet and headed to the storage room to find weapons.
This is another minor continuity issue. At first, Sanjay had problems opening the door when he saw some other prisoners being brought to the warehouse to clean. It opens up a bit and the zombies start crawling. A viscous fluid also came out, which we initially thought was blood. this is not. It's molasses. It had apparently overflowed from the storage tank, covering everything in a sticky, slippery goo. That's what all the prisoners assume at the beginning of the episode, making them easy prey for the walking dead inside.
Miraculously, the warehouse interior was completely clean when our hero entered. The floors were clean and bare. No molasses. no blood. No body parts or zombie parts. It's like there's no one there, not even a special effects department -- let alone quality control.
No weapons either.
We later found out that when Virginia showed up, the gun wasIfrom the very beginning. This is a test! They passed! Strand's noble attempt to take responsibility (for which, I'm not entirely sure, since they just do what she asks) and get promoted. He now has his only small army, which he can lead as he pleases, whenever he lends a helping hand when Virginia needs him. Isn't that Texas feudalism?
I'm really not sure how it all works, or why he didn't call his men together to save him. I think we have to accept that Virginia and her people are strong and running away is not an option, although Texas isn't the only place they can go. like a savior insidethe living dead. For whatever reason, it never occurred to Rick that they could leave and go to better pastures. Alexander, above all, is the root of it allwalking deadFainting and defects. Things were much better before they got stuck in crappy, boring Alexander.
Anyway, overall I thought it was a decent episode. Definitely better than most of the last season, but also full of annoying little things that never made the show great. The warehouse door is dripping with slime when the zombies leave, but when our hero enters, the floor is clean and dry. It might not be the greatest thing in the world, but it annoys me.
At the same time, these smaller characters require almost no effort, in my opinion. Sanjay, Marcus, pretty much all the Rangers, they're just average. I know we don't need the best actors in the world to fill these roles, but it's just sad when one of them gets the lines - partly because the show sucks, but usually because the lines themselves suck. "Stay here...you think you rememberdamn? ! A Ranger yelled at Daniel as he searched for his lost scissors. Relief.
