Did last season of "Fear the Walking Dead" just introduce a possible cure for the zombie apocalypse?
The latest developments surrounding the "TWD" spinoff certainly make it seem like a possibility.
In the second episode of season eight, "Blue Bird," we meet the mysterious P.A.D.R.E. The community has been trying to find a cure for zombie bites for some time.
Before, if you were bitten or scratched by a walking corpse, it usually took hours before you became one of the undead. In the first season of The Walking Dead, Dr. Jenner said that the fastest CPR he recorded lasted three minutes.
June (Jenna Elfman), now known as Blue Jay, begins experiments on test subjects by exposing them to doses of radiation.

June's team has made significant progress in slowing the progress of the zombie infection.
After perusing the on-screen documentation, people survived June's treatment for about a week.
Unfortunately, a few days wasn't enough for Dwight and Shirley's son, Finch.
At the end of the second episode, he reluctantly becomes June's last test subject after the leader of Padre kills him. Force the resurrected zombie's head around the child's neck.
The drive and commitment to find a cure has never been higher.
June claims she was once able to stop a zombie infection. Unfortunately, the amount of radiation required for this is intolerable.
So it's pretty crazy that Fincher was surprisingly healthy in this week's episode despite being bitten in the neck by a zombie.
Otherwise, in this universe, similar injuries are almost instantly fatal. But somehow, Fincher doesn't seem attached to life now. She takes it like a champ, and oddly enough it seems to be going well.
What's wrong? Is this child the antidote? Are you ok?
Ahead of the season, Insider asked showrunners Andrew Chamberlis and Ian Goldberg about the June experiment, Fincher's toddler bite, andConnect with Alicia.
Don't get high on the drug just yet. June seems to have found a way to prolong the infection.
Did Joan just discover a cure for Walker's Doom?
Chambresa:If so, he deserves a Nobel Prize. But one thing we have to say is what she did on that train, P.A.D.R.E. On this train, it really felt like a more advanced amputation. It attempts to remove infected tissue before the infection spreads.
So even if what they're doing on this train works, it's not a cure. This won't end the zombie apocalypse. It's sure to be a very useful tool for keeping people alive, especially if you're bitten enough that you can't cut off an arm or a leg.
I think a lot of people thought it might be a little crazy to add fallout to Fear the Walking Dead last season. But now he's playing such a big role in the final season because, as we learned in the second episode, P.A.D.R.E. He was, and still is, trying to find a cure for a toddler bite.
What inspired the quest for a cure in the last season, has radiation been part of your plan as a way to find a cure? Or is it part of a larger world that is building the "Walking Dead" universe? we knowCharacters in The Walking Dead: World BeyondDerivatives of the potential treatment were also tested.
Goldberg:The fact that June uses radiation as part of the treatment certainly reflects elements we've introduced in the show in the past. But what interests us most about them is the psychology behind P.A.D.R.E. What they wanted to do in the first place, what prompted them to subject the children they swore to protect to these experiments that put their lives in grave danger.
After all, that's what we mean. We thought it would be interesting to build a world as well, and what it does is open up to the rest of the universe.
But in the end it's all about the P.A.D.R.E. And dig into who they are and why they do what they do.
Chambresa:The original impetus for the idea of using radiation to kill the infection, June said, was Alicia surviving a bite. Then we also see P.A.D.R.E. who has a special interest in Madison, which is probably why they drew her blood. So all of these things relate in some way to the stories we've told and the stories we're going to tell.
Thanks for mentioning Alicia. Can you explain the thought process of portraying Shirley and Dwight's son Finch, skipping pregnancy and childbirth, and then deciding to brutally bite him in front of his parents?
Goldberg:Since Dwight and Shirley started working on The Walking Dead, both together and apart, they've had a pretty rough road, starting with their journeyat the shrine, farewell, find each other again in "Fear," and eventually lead them to a place of hope, Shirley became pregnant in season seven. They have something to fight for. Then, at the most promising moment, it was snatched from them.
In this episode, where we learn that Fincher didn't know in his life that either of them were his parents, the episode pretty much represents what they thought would be a chance to start a family. Quite the opposite of course. When they start dating, you know, Finch naturally becomes a terrible victim of PADRE's treatment.
Dwight and Shirley are just two characters who will always be rejected no matter how far they go, which will test them. They've been to dark places as a couple before, and this season is no different.
By the end of the third episode, Fincher seemed to be doing really well. I wonder if you originally wanted to give Alicia some kind of walker doomsday therapy before leaving the show last season?
Joan credits her name with inspiration for her quest to heal, and Dwight and Shirley's son now seems to be being positioned for this potential role.
Chambresa:[laughter. ]No. So that's not the plan.
But Fincher will be instrumental in the future, both in the way he inspires Dwight and Shirley, and in the way P.A.D.R.E. It is possible to see what happened to their experiment.
